BARN ART for Historic Preservation

The Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation presents:
A Celebration of Connecticut Barns
Join us for a gala opening of our second travelling art show celebrating the Connecticut barn!  Artists from across the state have lovingly documented an array of iconic Connecticut barns for this show.   Five local restaurants are donating hors d'oeuvres, thanks to the Barkhamsted Merchants Association. The Connecticut Trust will be providing wine and music.
A donation of $10 per person is suggested....adding Connecticut "barn art" to your art collection is encouraged! Friday, June 25, 2010 Opening Reception 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm Lambert Hitchcock House 8 Main Street
Village of Riverton (Barkhamsted)
Saturday is when the focus on community really shines! Begin the day with a with a spin on our popular House Talk program. Take a  guided walking tour of the Riverton National Register District as well as an inside peek at a mid nineteenth century house currently undergoing renovations.  Christopher Wigren, Senior Architectural Historian with the Connecticut Trust will lead the tour, complemented by insights provided by architect (and avid barn surveyer!), Charlotte Hitchcock.
Saturday, June 26, 2010 House Talk 11am- 1pm $35 Registration
After the tour, visit the Barn Art Show & Sale. The gallery at the Lambert Hitchcock House will be open all day (11 am - 3pm) for viewing and purchasing of art.
Join in with other "Riverton" activities.  The community, through cooperation with the Barkhamsted Merchant Association, has arranged an array of activities for us.
--Jamie McAllister will provide a demonstration on fly fishing
--Rick Swenson will provide a demonstration on furniture repair (especially Hitchcock furniture)
--Local restaurants will be open to the public:
Rose's Kitchen, Sweet Pea's Restaurant, the Riverton General Store, the  Catnip Mouse Tearoom
               and the Old Riverton Inn.
With the added attention to Connecticut barns through our statewide barns survey and workshops, we are hoping that our Celebration of Connecticut Barns Art Show will be a smashing success. The artwork that will be on display is simply amazing!   With your help, we can really make this an event to remember, bringing together people as a community, just as farmers did when they raised barns in times past. For more information, please call us at 203-562-6312. See you in Riverton! The Statewide Survey of Connecticut Barns is supported by a grant from the Commission on Culture and Tourism with funds from the Community Investment Act of the State of Connecticut.
